Intruder WIP pt. 4

Managed to sneak in some painting time today. I got some work done on the pouches and handgun holster, and basecoated the guns.

Even just having the black on the guns makes a big difference.

Intruder WIP pt. 3

Finished the metallics, armor, glowy parts, and base. I think I've decided against snow... the warm brown plays off the blue nicely.

Left to do: pouches, straps, holsters, and guns. Maybe I'll add a couple more vegetation details to the base, as well.

Intruder WIP pt. 2

Having fun with this guy! I'm going with a color scheme similar to the Djanbazan, but want to have more pronounced glowy ice blue things (the right eye and gauntlet gem things). I plan to do snow on the base, I'm looking for an overall cold feel.

So far I've developed the pants and armor, and basecoated the metallics. The armor still needs a couple last things before it's finished.

Intruder WIP pt. 1

I'm still waiting on the dog for the sniper display, but feel the urge to paint! So I decided to work on yet another Infinity model that caught my eye.

Not... Paints?!

I thought I'd write about an art-related experience I had today. I'm taking an art class, and we are working on these inventory projects. For the last two, I've used a similar style. Today, I sat down and tried to do the next one in the same style, and couldn't do it. I was over-thinking it, bored of it, and not enjoying it at all. So I said to myself "screw it, I'll do something different," and just kind of played around. This is a "line" inventory and it is about the illusion of space/ depth.

I kind of just went at it... and I started to think about planning while I was doing it. I realize, to a certain extent, I resent planning when it comes to making art. The pieces I do rarely come out "as planned," in fact I don't think I've ever really planned something out entirely; there are always pleasant surprises, a process of negotiation, and I've found it's easier to just go with it than to try to fight against it. Planning beyond a certain point feels counter-productive (I don't want to be totally unprepared). If it's all perfectly planned, I'm not playing around anymore, and I tend to find I like my results much more when I'm playing around. If I plan it out, I know what I am going to do - I'm only going to do what I think I should do. If it's partially unplanned, I have no idea what could happen (I don't even know what I'm going to do), and I've found I like that. I like seeing what happens. Is there any reason to value a "planned" piece of art more highly than an "unplanned" one?

Maybe I'll post some more of my class projects on here in the future, at least if it really catches me. This one I just really enjoyed.

Djanbazan WIP pt. 10

Just some small updates: I worked on the bag, and painted in the grass.

Djanbazan WIP pt. 9

More done. At this point, I just have the bag on top of the car to finish. I'm thinking about making it a dark brown, I think that top corner needs some weight. I've got some stuff left to do on the base as well. I'll be waiting for the arrival of both the dog and some leaf foliage I ordered for the tree/ ground. I'm thinking it might work nicely on the back of the cloak-tarp also.

Djanbazan WIP pt. 8

Really looking cool with the added texture on the armor:

I also put a few leaves on there just to see how they look.

Djanbazan WIP pt. 7

Some work done on the man. I'm planning on adding some damage to his armor for texture and some rust to keep him consistent with the rest of the scene.

The most interesting spot of the piece to me, so far, is the glowing eye. I'm interested in having just one spot of color on the man to distinguish him from the scene.

I'm also thinking about adding some leaves and grass to the back of his cloak, to make it look like an impromptu ghillie suit. I'm also curious to see how the addition of the dog will affect the whole thing.
